The Lake Forest City Council will vote Tuesday to decide who should be mayor and mayor pro tem in 2012.

Last, but likely not least, on the agenda for the Tuesday evening meeting of the Lake Forest City Council is a vote that will determine the city's mayor and mayor pro tem for 2012.

The city's mayor and mayor pro tem serve one-year terms, which begin Jan. 1 each year.

Since Herzog was elected in 1994, he has been voted mayor five other times: in 1998, 1999, 2004, 2005 and 2010. Tettemer, elected in 2004, also served as mayor pro tem in 2006 and 2007 and mayor in 2008 and 2009.

Councilwoman , also elected in 1994, served a year as mayor in 2000. Councilwoman , a member of the city's inaugural council in 1991, was mayor pro tem in 1993 and mayor in 1994.

Councilman , who took office in 2010, has held neither office.

In Lake Forest, the title of mayor is a largely ceremonial designation. The mayor leads council meetings and acts as an unofficial spokesperson for the city. The mayor pro tem serves as an assistant and alternate.

Since 1995, the City Council has determined at its first meeting each December who will be mayor and mayor pro tem for the coming year.
