Portola Hills Housing Proposal Meeting Tuesday

Stakeholders are invited to discuss the environmental report that will be drawn up for the project. Development could bring 930 new homes to Portola Hills in Lake Forest.

Anyone interested in a to build as many 930 new homes in Portola Hills is invited to a Tuesday evening meeting focused on the potential environmental impact of the development plans.

Input given at the meeting will play a role in determining the scope of the environmental review for the project, noting any significant environmental changes likely to occur if the community is built and how to mitigate them. 

Areas of review will include aesthetics, air quality, water quality, noise and traffic.

A preliminary analysis of potential impacts, known as the Initial Study, is available for public review and comment through Monday. The document is available at , ,  and on the city's website.

Comments will be gathered at Tuesday's meeting. Those attending the meeting can submit written comments to senior planner Ron Santos at rsantos@lakeforestca.gov. The deadline for comments is 5 p.m. Monday.

Under its current iteration, the Portola Hills proposal would include as many as 930 homes, a 5-acre sports park, various neighborhood parks, a small mixed-use site including up to 10,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and upper-story residential units. 

The 243-acre project site is at the intersection of Glenn Ranch and Saddleback Ranch roads.

Residents have repeatedly expressed concerns about what they say will be an unmanageable increase in traffic, especially near the elementary school, if the development is built.

Tuesday's meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in Community Room B at City Hall, 25550 Commercentre Drive.

The city has set up a new website, dubbed "New Neighborhoods," to share information about five housing developments that either have city approval or are wending their way through the approval process.
