Proposed Portola Hills Homes Focus of Community Meeting

Representatives from the developer proposing to build more homes in the Portola Hills community of Lake Forest are hosting a community meeting Thursday at the area's elementary school.

Portola Hills residents will meet Thursday evening with representatives from builder Baldwin and Sons for the first of a series of community talks about a proposed 930-home development.

Attendees will get an update on the proposal, which details a new community to  be situated off Glenn Ranch Road, at the meeting, which will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at .  

Area residents will get a chance to give feedback on the project, which is the last of five planned as part of the city's move to encourage residential development on what was once the El Toro Marine Corps base and its surroundings.

In addition to the proposed homes—which would include a mix of single-family and multi-family residences—Baldwin and Sons is proposing a small shopping center to the south of the intersection of Glenn Ranch Road and Saddleback Ranch Road.

At a meeting nearly 16 months ago in February 2011, residents  in the Portola Hills community if the proposal is approved.

A review of the potential environmental impacts of the Portola project is underway. Documents detailing the review process are available here.

Area residents are also invited to a July 10 meeting at City Hall about the project. At the meeting, called a scoping meeting, the parameters of any further review will be established. Those interested in learning more are also welcome at a Planning Commission meeting scheduled for July 12, which will include a tour of the property in question.
