Put Down That Log: Another No-Burn Day Planned

New Year's Eve parties have to go fire-free, at least until it's officially 2014.

Wood-fired heating will be prohibited starting at midnight tonight in Lake Forest and lasting 24 hours into New Year’s Eve, because of high smog levels and stagnant air.

The “no burn day” order will be in effect in Los Angeles and Orange counties, and much of the Inland Empire, with a few exceptions, said officials at the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

Persons who have wood as their sole source of heat, or those living above the 3,000-foot elevation, are exempt. Also exempt are persons with low income.

It’s the third no-burn order this month.

Persons seeking information about the order can check out www.airalerts.org and enter their zip codes.

This is an outrage and another infringement on individual freedom and illustrates more government dominance over the citizens (who it works for). How convenient for them to exhibit their dominance over us during the holiday's. They "decide" it is a "no burn day" when friends and families want to entertain and charm their houses with wood or gas fire? Then they couch their rationale in some phony global warming, smog mumbo jumbo study. Who makes these arbitrary rules and lets publish their names in the Patch and get them on record. I don't want to hear from from a talking Public Relations mouth. I want the policy makers and the politicians who appointed them on record and challenged. Unless these tyrannical govt officials are stopped in their tracks we will soon have burn days every night in the winter and the SCAQMD will have a budget to actually send inspectors to knock on your door with fines and other punishments.
