Council Racks Up $8K in First-Quarter Expenses

Three of five Lake Forest council members reported spending money for travel and expenses in the first quarter of the 2011-12 fiscal year.

Three Lake Forest City Council members have spent more than $8,000 of the council's annual expense account in the first quarter of this fiscal year.

The council spent a total of $8,252.57 from July 1 through Sept. 30, according to city records.

Councilwoman Marcia Rudolph leads the pack, with nearly $3,000 in travel and meeting expenses.

Neither Mayor Peter Herzog nor Mayor Pro Tem Tettemer spent any of the council’s money during the quarter, city records show.

Charges debited to the account must be for authorized travel, ancillary City Council meeting expenses, or advance payments for travel occurring during the coming quarter (to be itemized in future travel expense reports), according to a city staff report.

If the first quarter expense pattern continues, the council is on track to spend nearly all its $35,000 travel and meeting budget by the end of the 2011-12 fiscal year.

Available now is a balance of $26,747.43.

The council will vote Tuesday to file the expenses with the city as part of the consent calendar, a line-up of items generally approved in one vote. (A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that the council will vote to approve the expenses; all expenditures have already been approved.)

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Lake Forest City Hall, 25550 Commercentre Drive.
