Donation Drive to Support El Toro Music Programs

The community donation event Saturday is a fundraiser for the Lake Forest high school's music programs.

Community members are invited to turn their gently-used clothing, furniture and other unwanted items into sheet music and instrument tune-ups for local high school musicians though a community donation drive this weekend.

El Toro High School is teaming up with  for a one-day donation event that will raise money for the school's music programs based on the amount of donations collected Saturday.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., two 28-foot trailers will be parked in the El Toro High School parking lot at the corner of Serrano Way and Ridge Route Drive. Donations of gently-used clothing, household goods, electronics, sporting equipment, furniture and more will be accepted.

El Toro High can earn $1,500 for each trailer that is filled with donations, or $900 for trailers filled with bulk or furniture items, according to Pooja Jhobalia-Pelham with Goodwill of Orange County.

Any money raised will go toward the costs of the school's music programs, "which are 100 percent family funded," said Carol Ferguson, with the music program.

"What is so neat about this [fundraiser] is that it gives community members an easy and convenient way to donate items to the Goodwill which in turn helps them raise revenue for their life-changing programs that provide greater independence for people with disabilities and other barriers," she said.
