More than just the South Coast League title is on the line. The winner will also be the favorite to receive the number one seed in the PAC-5 division playoffs, which begin Nov. 9.

For Mission Viejo, another South Coast league title would come as no surprise.

Since Bob Johnson took over the program in 1999, the Diablos have captured ten South Coast league titles and three CIF-Southern Section titles. Mission Viejo is led by two-way star Max Redfield, who has already committed to USC and was recently tabbed to play in the 2013 Under Armor All-American game.

El Toro’s success this season is a continuation from last year’s strong showing, despite moving into the PAC-5, the toughest division in the CIF-Southern Section.

In 2011, Manning led the Chargers to a 12-2 record and a berth in the CIF-SS Southwest division’s championship game before losing to Tustin 35-28. That season, Manning eclipsed Mater Dei alum Matt Barkley’s Orange County passing records for passing yards and touchdown passes in a season.
