Half-Dozen Prospective Tenants Looking at Aliso Property

Private schools are among the interested parties.

Six groups have already expressed interest in leasing the Aliso Elementary School property from the Saddleback Valley Unified School District, according to district officials.

The 8.15-acre property on Loumount Drive is closing June 30, to the dismay of the parents of some of the school's students.

The district has said that the move will save it approximately $400,000.

Three of the potential lessees are private schools, says Geri Partida, Saddleback Valley Unified School District assistant superintendent of business services.

A private K-8 school is the kind of tenant the district told the city Thursday night that it would prefer.

If the district ends up planning to lease the property to be used for something other than education, it would need to return to the Planning Commission for a conditional-use permit.

However, the district still has to request bids from all interested parties. It got the OK from the Planning Commission to do so Thursday night.

It plans to do so and install a new tenant by fall.
