Saddleback Valley Unified Schools Power Through Outages

All the district's schools are open today.

Power outages notwithstanding, all Saddleback Valley Unified School District schools are in session today, and no changes to sports schedules are expected.

The took out power to half of SVUSD, spokeswoman Tammy Blakely said.

Saddleback Valley Unified has schools in both Lake Forest—where the lights stayed on—and the towns of Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita, both of which were affected by the power outages.

"As far as I understand, there were seven schools reported without power," Blakely said.

But, because the outage hit in the later part of the afternoon, the activities going on at those schools were mainly outdoors, SVUSD safety coordinator Frank Manzo said Friday.

Even had the power stayed off Friday, as San Diego Gas & Electric had warned Thursday, the district would still have opened the schools as usual on Friday, Blakely said.

"We are very happy that the power is on and we have kids in school and they’re doing their thing," she said.
