El Toro High will take part in a bit of history Saturday when its Model United Nations team travels to Santa Margarita Catholic to participate in the South Orange County Model United Nations Conference (SOCOMUN).

This event, the world's largest one-day MUN event, is being organized by students Jake Lawicki and Brittany Genthert, both of Mission Viejo.

SOCOMUN is an opportunity for high school students to learn about the Model United Nations Program, which simulates the workings of the United Nations.

High school students serve as delegates discussing global issues such as terrorism, HIV/AIDs, drug control, deforestation and child labor.

Nearly 1,500 students from 20 high schools are expected to attend. The SOCOMUN conference is the largest one-day MUN conference in the world.
