Speed Demons Race Saturday at Skatepark

Skateboarders of all ages will compete Saturday at  in Lake Forest in the ninth annual Speed Demon race.

The competition, a cross style race where two people race to finish, with the winner moving on in the brackets, includes divisions for participants 13 years of age and younger, 14 and older, and 30 years of age and older.

"This is an event for all skills and styles," said Nick Gates, park coordinator.

Participant registration begins at 4 p.m. the day of the event at the park, at 20028 Lake Forest Dr. Races begin at 6 p.m.

Entry fee is $10 per competitor.

Winners will take home skateboard products as prizes.

During the race, one of the parks will host an Old Man Bowl Jam in one of the park's bowls, organized by Concrete Disciples for older skateboarders, Gates said.

Proceeds will go to keep the skate park free, he added.
