Diary of a Charger: Here's Hoping That Practice Makes Perfect

El Toro High varsity lacrosse player, freshman Bella Knoth, shares her journal entry for the week ending March 1.

Hey again!

Well amazingly enough, it's been a pretty uneventful week. My first lacrosse game is March 8, and I'm still pretty nervous. Different plays that we have been learning seem to work very well, but there is one particular play that I just cannot seem to wrap my brain around. I'm terrified that the play will get called in a game and I won't know what I'm supposed to do. I have a week to prepare for this, so I'll just have to work super hard in practice until then.

In school, I'm not quite as stressed as I was last semester. Math isn't terribly complicated yet, so I can relax about that for a while. In chemistry, one of my favorite classes, my teacher changed her system of grading, so instead of all the points being equal, tests are worth 60 percent of the grade. Even a B on a test dropped my grade 3 percent, so I'm slightly worried about how this class will go. Coming up in a few weeks are the CAHSEEs, also known as the California High School Exit Exams. It consists of a math and English test, as well as an essay. I'm not concerned about passing the multiple choice portion; I'm more worried about the writing. On-demand essays are not my strong point, and I always seem to run out of time before I can finish. Hopefully all of the practice essays my English teacher has been making us write will help me out!

Apparently, it is sick season at El Toro. Every day, more kids are absent with the flu or a cold, and it has been going around fast. Last Friday, only nine players (out of 25) on varsity made it to practice due to illness. Though I rarely got sick in the past, I have been getting cold after cold, which is quite annoying when I'm trying to get in shape for season. Wish me luck!

Until next week,

Bella
