Diary of a Charger: Suffering Through a Week of Sleep Deprivation

El Toro High water polo goalkeeper Emily Browning shares her journal for the week ending Feb. 12.

Hey everybody!

This has been one fast week! The first week of the new semester went smoothly. I have a new history teacher and I am also now in health. Both of my teachers for those classes are really nice. This semester I have a first period, which starts at 7:05 a.m. The time I spend at school is going by fast with having first period. But starting school so early, it's been harder to get more sleep.

Last Saturday my high school team had a water polo tournament where we played against many tough teams that are in our division. After our two games on Saturday, I had to rush home to get ready for the dance that night, Winter Formal. I ended up taking a shower at the pool and air dried my hair out the car window! Luckily I ended up having enough time to get ready at home. We took our pictures in my culdesac and they turned out great.

My date and I matched very well. I had made him a peacock feather boutonniere that turned out looking really good! The dance was also very fun. But from having to wake up at six in the morning that day and not going to bed till two in the morning on Sunday, I was exhausted. Sunday I slept in, and then went to a friend's house for the Super Bowl.

I was not looking forward to going back to school on Monday. All of my classes seem to be getting harder and it's been a struggle to stay focused on all of them.

Last Tuesday, we had a game against Capo Valley and won. We also had a game Thursday against Rosary and won. Our regular-season games are over now and its time to focus on CIF playoffs. We all want it so badly and I know we are going to do great. All of us are going to need to be foucused in the next couple of practices to do well.

Our coach has been coming up with new game plans and has been preparing us well, and I am sure he wants us to win just as badly as we do. Once the season is over, I am going to miss it a lot. It is nice having such a small team where everyone gets along perfectly. Although I will still see my team members at school and at club (once it starts up again), I am still going to miss being with them 24/7.

I am very much looking forward to this weekend. It will be nice to have a weekend off with my mind clear from water polo before CIF starts. My plan for the weeked is to gain back all of the sleep I have been missing!

Thanks for reading!

Emily
