In Business, The Results You See Are The Results You Get

Part of not getting the results you want in your business is not having a clear vision of what you want your business to be. Like lots of things in life, in business what you see is what you get!

Why is it so important to be able to see the results you want from in your business?  Many times, in the pursuit of getting the results you want, business owners simply dive in and work harder doing the exact same things that may have produced the current circumstances.

Like driving a car, building a house or preparing Thanksgiving dinner for the family, your chances of getting exactly what you want depends on how well you see the end result before you get there.  Running a business is no different.  Any successful outcome that happens by accident is fleeting.  The only way to get the results you want for your business and get what you want out of it along the way is to be able to see the results you want.  This is called ‘having a vision’.

Getting the Results You Want means Starting with The End in Mind:

Too often, business owners stumble over the ‘vision creation’ part because they get caught up trying to find out how to get there first.  It may sound counterintuitive but starting with the end in mind actually works better!  Before you can begin planning to get the results you want, you should concentrate on creating a vivid image of the results you want.

Getting the Results You Want Means Having a Clear mental Image:

Having a clear mental image of the results you want, down to the smallest detail can go a long way to keeping you on track.  Think of the car driving reference I mentioned earlier.  If you wanted to drive from San Diego to Maine to see the fall colors, you’d first want to determine where you would end up.  After that, consideration would be given to how long you planned to be gone, what other things you might want to see, how many stops you would make and how frequently you would need to fill up for gas.  You might even decide to see specific points of interest that could adjust the route you need to take.  Now, how effective would all this be if you didn’t know where you were going to end up when you arrived at your destination?  Running a business is no different.

Getting the Results You Want Takes Daily Reinforcement:

One of the best ways to solidify your vision is to write it down.  Be as descriptive as you can and include dates for accomplishing certain milestones.  When finished, your vision should read like a story that holds you in suspense wanting to know how it will all end. Next, place it where you can see it daily.  Remarkably, seeing your vision each day will train your brain to absorb the details and begin looking for things in your surroundings that will lead you to the results you want.  It sounds crazy but my business today came about this very way and the business I have is remarkably consistent with the vision I started with.

Success in Business means never Losing Sight of the Results You Want:

The longer you stay in business, the more you realize that the main reason some business owners become highly successful is because they never lose sight of the results they want from their business.  They continually navigate the waters to insure they stay on course.  It’s not difficult if you maintain the discipline and the commitment. Of course, if discipline and commitment are issues, it’s probably because you skipped the vision part.
