Nearly 150 people came out to in Lake Forest on Saturday for the city's annual Family Campout.
At the event, dubbed "Under the Stars," parents and children tried their hand at crafts, games and prizes, and camp songs. Dinner was also provided.
The location of the event encouraged newcomer Heather Birdsell, 28, of Lake Forest to attend with her husband, Jason, and son, Will.

"It's low-key, it's small, it's a quick little event. It's not packing everything up and driving two hours. It's quick and easy, " she said.
Birdsell also attended for Jason, 33, and Will, 3, because of their interest in camping.

"My son is super excited about camping so this is his first little introduction," she said.
Families brought their own tents and materials, making it a part of the camping experience.
Rosie Wagner, 45, of Lake Forest wanted her kids, Sienna, 9, and Rocky, 10 to have the experience, she said.
And, like Birdsell, the location was her motivation.
"It's close to home, it's convenient," she said. "This is all for [Sienna and Rocky]. They have to go through the experience."
The event wrapped up the next morning with breakfast.
