A blood drive is going on in , until 2:30 p.m. today, according to store personnel.

The popular breakfast spot regularly hosts community blood drives, run by the American Red Cross.

According to the Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross, donating blood—needed for treatment for trauma victims and patients with cancer, blood diseases and severe burns—saves more than 4 million American lives each year.

At the moment, the Red Cross is urging people in areas unaffected by Hurricane Irene to assist in disaster relief efforts by donating blood.

More than 60 Red Cross blood drives were canceled in anticipation of the storm's arrival, and the organization expects additional blood drives in affected areas to be postponed due to storm damage.

Donors can give blood every 56 days, according to the Red Cross.
