Lake Forest Charity Gets $5K For Community Cleanup

Adopt-A-Neighbor Food & Outreach in Lake Forest is one of 41 organizations to receive a grant from Keep America Beautiful, a nonprofit run by Waste Management.

A Lake Forest charity is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from a environmentally-focused nonprofit associated with trash company Waste Management.

Grant winner Adopt-A-Neighbor Food & Outreach was founded by Lake Forest's current Mayor Kathryn McCullough.

The local nonprofit is one of 41 organizations that nationwide volunteer program Keep America Beautiful selected for a Think Green Community Improvement Grant.

Adopt-A-Neighbor's grant application made the cut because of a community cleanup the organization is planning, for which the organization plans to team up various community groups.

"We were impressed by the scope of the project and the engagement of lots of elements of the community," said Robert Wallace, vice president of communications for KAB.

According to the environmental organization, the grants are part of an ongoing effort by Keep America Beautiful to encourage participation in local community improvement projects such as cleanups, beautification, recycling and environmental educational programs.

Ten of the 41 grants were given out in California, including two to Orange County charities. Zero Waste, Zero Trash Laguna, a Laguna Beach-based organization, is also a recipient.

According to KAB, Waste Management works with the national nonprofit on programs designed to increase recycling and support community sustainability.
