Head's Up Thru Oct. 6: Worthwhile Activities This Week

A look at what's going down and coming up for Lake Forest and Foothill Ranch residents.  

• Want to donate money and work like a dog for the benefit of the El Toro High music program? The Powerplay Boot Camp at El Toro today, 9 a.m., on the Toledo fields. Cost is $15 with a portion benefiting the music program.

• Today is Open House for Brightmont Academy in Mission Viejo, which provides residents with another private school option. It begins at 4 p.m.

• City Council meets on Tuesday, 7 p.m. Affordable housing, waste collection and legislative consulting services are on the agenda

• The City of Lake Forest , Small Business Administration and the Chamber of Commerce have partnered for a seminar Friday, 8-11:30 a.m., called "Introduction to Government Contracting." It's designed for entrepreneurs interested in obtaining contracts with city, county, state and federal government. Click here for registration details.

• Having trouble having kids? Fertility 101 at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center may be worth your time Thursday, 6 p.m. If fertility isn't an issue and you're over 35 and planning for children, you may want to head over to the hospital on Wednesday, 6 p.m., to learn steps to maximize your health, and that of the baby's, in a Pregnancy After 35 class.

• Trey Tinsley threw more passes in a football game than any Southern Section player in history in El Toro's win over Villa Park. Find out what he does for an encore—and take a road trip—at Claremont on Friday as the Chargers try to pull to 3-3 on the season. Over at Trabuco Hills, following its first loss in a thriller against Santa Margarita Catholic, the Mustangs will play host to JSerra in what should be a fantastic game. Kickoffs are at 7 p.m.

• Lake Forest Superstars 4-H will hold a chili cookoff and barn dance at the Serrano Creek Stables. The event is Saturday, 5 p.m. Admission is $5 per person over 3 years of age, and activities include line dancing, apple bobbing and cookie decorating, with other activities as well. Entry fee for the chili cookoff is $10 with a maximum of 20 entries. Additional info is here.
