Head's Up Thru Sept. 29: Worthwhile Events This Week

A look at the week ahead for Lake Forest-area residents.

By Martin Henderson

A look at what's going down and coming up in the Lake Forest and Foothill Ranch area.

• Register while you can. Don't be caught off guard in the event of an emergency in Orange County, whether it's earthquake, wildfire or other event. Register this week for the AlertOC test, which takes place next week (Sept. 24). Don't wait to the last minute, or wait until it's too late, to get onboard an emergency information tool that may save your life or your property.

• The Planning Commission meets on Tuesday. It's a light meeting, with only a couple of items on the agenda, including changed plans for a proposed compressed natural gas vehicle filling station. If you plan to attend to show your support for newly appointed commissioner Jolene Fuentes, she won't be there; she announced a prior engagement

• The football season continues on Thursday with a whopper. Trabuco Hills, ranked seventh in the Orange County Top 10, plays host to fifth-ranked Santa Margarita Catholic in a Thursday night slugfest. Meanwhile, El Toro has a chance on Friday to put to good use all the lessons it has learned from its 1-4 start; the Chargers play host to Villa Park, a team hovering near the top 10. El Toro could really use a quality win before taking on the South Coast League.

• Want to learn how to make a winning first impression? That's the subject of the Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce networking luncheon and business roundtable on Friday. Not only do you learn valuable business insight, it's at Lucille's Smokehouse Barbecue. Talk about a winning combination.

• It's a short drive but nationally known evangelist Greg Laurie will be featured Saturday and Sunday at the Harvest America telecast at Christian Mission Church in Laguna Niguel. Click here for details

• Free dental service will be provided, on a first-come first-serve basis, Sunday at California Dental in Tustin. If you're without a dentist, it's a great deal. Click here for details

• The final fundraiser by Artemis Defense Institute for Reserve Sheriff's Sgt. Jon Kudla takes place Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting three hours. If you've never been inside a shooting simulator, this is your chance and goes to a good cause; Kudla is recovering from injuries sustained when he was allegedly attacked in his sleep by his son. The facility is located at 11 Spectrum Point in Lake Forest.
