Adobe Serrano Celebrates 150th on Sunday

Heritage Hill Historical Park and OC Parks are pleased to present a celebration in retrospect of 150 years of the Serrano Adobe on Sunday. A new exhibit will be opened to showcase what life was like during the Californio period of the Rancho history.

Built in 1863, the Serrano Adobe is the only remaining structure left from Jose Serrano’s Rancho Canada de los Alisos. Originally five adobes occupied the Rancho stretching from the 5 freeway to Cook’s Corner. Dwight Whiting purchased much of the Rancho in 1884 and his sons restored the Adobe, which was later declared a California Historic Landmark in 1932.

The new exhibit will open in a room that was converted from a stable in the 1930s by the Whiting Family. The exhibit will depict what life was like for the Serrano family on the Rancho Canada de los Alisos and will include a dress-up area for children, a display of items that were traded from the ships in Dana Point and artifacts from the era, including a half saddle and fruit presses courtesy of the Bowers Museum.

The Adobe 150th celebration will open with a ribbon cutting ceremony and feature an open house, photo booth and hands-on activities. The event will offer guests complimentary light refreshments.
