Ride a Model Train This Weekend in Costa Mesa

The Orange County Model Engineers' railroad offers public rides this month on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16-17.

Costa Mesa boasts an unusual model railroad in Fairview Park that is too small to be real, yet large enough to ride on.

One weekend each month, the non-profit Orange County Model Engineers offers public rides over the Mackerel Flats and Goat Hill Junction Railroad.

This month the public ride days are Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16-17, from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Trains on public-ride days are made up of four to six bench cars that each seat five to six adults and children. Rides last 12 minutes.

Admission and parking are free, but donations are welcome to keep the railroad running.

The railroad is located at 2500 Placentia Avenue in the park.
