@M- Your Apple device is a closed system which would make it really hard for it to be hacked. YouRead More are more likely to be exploited through a Phishing scam where you get an email that looks like it is from a trusted company telling you there's a problem with your account (it could claim to be your bank account, Apple account, Amazon or credit card company, etc) once you log into their fake site they ask for personal information like social security numbers, credit card info, etc. The other thing we see in regards to email accounts being hacked are poor passwords and using public wifi. Hope that helps a bit.

Angie....you cannot legislate "good behavior".
Amused April 20, 2014 at 02:53 pm
Angie, Newport IS my back yard and after seeing 6 or 7 cyclist killed by drivers IN Newport I tendRead More to agree with Oldtimer. And he is correct - the average sentance for KILLING someone with a car who is on a bike is 3 years. I never advocated he not be punished but, leave your misplaced anger at the OC District Attys office - not me. Let's face it - once he has been released he will either be on his best behavior or back between bars.
Amused April 20, 2014 at 03:16 pm
Girl up Angie - you said "put him in your backyard" and that was a shot at me. You shouldRead More be shouting with me, not at me since we obviously feel the same way about the Judge and attys. Let's face it, money that would be well spent to prevent these tragedies never becomes available. Then look at you and your friends behavior about driving and drinking, texting, talking on the phone, eating, doing makeup, shaving, yelling at the kids and dogs and whatever else is DISTRACTING you at the time of the "accident".

So are you telling me that if some joker stopped by with a 6 pound bucket of ludes that the copsRead More wouldn't ask any probing questions or at minimum jot down the numbers on his Ca plates and keep the bucket as potential evidence? I don't know if I buy that. Oh, and show up on April 26th 'rain or shine'? In the last 100 years how often did it rain on April 26th in Orange County? I bet we had more earthquakes on that date than rainstorms.

Haven't Quaaludes been illegal since 1984? (I remember going to Halloween parties back in the 1970sRead More with people dressed up as huge "Rorer 714" pills) Hard to mention those in the context of a article describing dumping of (legal) prescription drugs.
OldTimer April 19, 2014 at 09:05 am
Oh, Andy. What's the use of splitting hairs with me? If you don't like the 'ludes' exampleRead More substitute the one of your choice. There are literally hundreds of 'legal' drugs. (ie. bennies, vallies, oxy, etc...). The point being if some clown showed up with a 6 pound bucket of them to drop in the amnesty safe I wonder if the cops would turn a blind eye like the article says. About as likely as witnessing the birth of a 2-headed goat IMO. Btw, I loved those 70's haloween parties. That "Rorer 714" costume you referred to must have been hilarious. I wish I would have thought of it. The best I could do was dressing up like "Father Time" while carrying around a cracked wall clock I brought from home.

This will be a slam-dunk for the DA's office (IMO). Why? I was told by an attorney that these kindRead More of cases due to their nature puts the burden of proof (not by law but by application) on the defense not the prosecution. In these type of cases you are guilty until proving yourself innocent. Ever try to prove a negative? Can't be done. Whether the guy is innocent or not he will be found guilty. That's not how it's suppose to work, but with anything sex relayed all normal standards go flying out the window (IMO). In this case it was argued that there is no evidence. In most other type cases the DA's office would not take the case because of the burden of proof issue, but because it's sexual in nature they're pretty sure of a win (IMO). If the guy did it he should be slammed, but no one knows the real truth because there is no evidence. It truly is a he said she said thing! The reasonable doubt should go to the defendant, but it won't. TRUTH

Where on earth does one find these people? California has been known since the 'sixties as the landRead More of fruits and nuts, but for a woman to go to a motel room with a strange man, take her clothes off and allow herself to be anointed with ammonia and eggs makes one wonder how anyone who has been alive for the past forty years can possibly be ignorant of the cult-like practices of California's spiritual "healers."

...an alibi? How many people have been convicted after giving an alibi without anyone available toRead More witness or support their alibi? To many! As I get older I have come to realize rarely are things the way they are fed to us or as they appear on the surface. The other sad thing is the media will quickly ruin a guy's life but never after being found innocent go back and recant or disclose the facts for what they really are. Why is that? Because it sells more news to tear down than to report truth on a follow up.

our legal system SUCKS for lack of a better word.... Our problem starts in the juvenile system.Read More Slaps on the hand for serious multiple felonies. OldTimer April 10, 2014 at 01:38 pm
Hi bbq. I figured that somebody would pounce on that. I was speaking from a philosophical senseRead More rather than a political sense. But I didn't expect everybody to catch on. So now instead of the germans ruling the world, we do. We have our foot in practically every nation on earth. I bet that suits you much better and makes you happy. Because, of course, we are the good guys and have earned the right to tell everybody else how to live. And that's fine. I like it when people are happy. Oh, and I won't blame the homeowners associations. I blame general alienation which is a normal progressive consequence that generally goes hand in hand with prosperity. Oh, and the reason I don't see any kids cutting grass anymore for spending money is because the illegals have captured that market and taken it away from the youngsters in southern California.

Josephina, it's my impression that dogs build an emotional attachment with the local hydrants. YouRead More should see mine pull me from one to the other. Like a little locomotive. And who am I to know...there might be some secret communication going on there between the two? Why do you think dogs are so attached to hydrants versus, let's say, stop signs? Unfortunately most California pedestrians, whether they are crossing a street or crossing a parkingRead More lot, DO NOT LOOK BEFORE CROSSING! There might be some TinselTown director out there watching this story unfold who might beRead More interested in turning it into a TV drama. He could call it "Lion Terror in the OC". Had I been the one to scare that mean cat away I'd probably dress up in a ninja outfit or something for the press photo. A Tarzan loincloth with a Fred Flintstone wooden club would probably be a little melodramatic and counterproductive, turning off most viewers with normal eyesight. In a lifetime most of us only get maybe 10 to 15 minutes of fame (at most). So my philosophy has always been to make hay while the sun shines. As a kid I was selected from the audience at an NBA game to carry an advertising placard on the BB court at halftime with a bunch of other kids. It was on the regional TV network. That was the beginning and end of my screen career. Thinking back maybe I should have done my Groucho Marx imitation routine. It might have opened a door and I could have been a somebody. Oh well. Matt, thank you for clarifying your earlier comment. Now I understand your viewpoint much better. IRead More think there are alot of people who think like you do. In fact, I know there are since entire states have banned DUI checkpoints on constitutional grounds. Many people who understand history and the way powerful governments evolve are leary of the 'slippery slope' syndrome - by which onerous and consuming laws tend to build upon one another. How many new ones are enacted each year in California alone? 1000? Your comments on the SCOTUS are very observant. Look at their ruling on the ObamaCare mandate....that the Commerce Clause did not apply. This, of course, leaves the door open for government to mandate a tax on any behavior that it wishes to promote - and you must pay it (like it or not) or deal with the government enforcement arm. Unfortunately the SCOTUS has become highly politicized as of late and I find that to be quite precarious relative to the state of our nation. Per the problems we've witnessed with NSA and Mr. Snowden's revelations it seems that privacy in America is becoming an endangered species. And many of our highest leaders (like Diane Feinstein) are perfectly satisfied with domestic NSA spying but when she found out that the CIA was said to have spied on her Ms. Feinstein became enraged. The shoe hurt when it was on the other foot. I agree with your outlook on these matters in general, Matt. And I thank you for the update, sir.
