California Supreme Court will decide whether cities can legally use zoning codes to prohibit marijuana dispensaries as Lake Forest has done.
A ruling in favor of a Lake Forest medical marijuana collective is on hold after the California Supreme Court on Wednesday granted a petition from the city to review the decision. The state Supreme Court agreed to hear a case about whether cities can use their zoning codes to prohibit dispensaries as Lake Forest has done, according to City News Service. The decision puts on hold the lower court's decision in favor of Evergreen Holistic Collective, issued in February, until the state's highest court rules. In the meantime, the Lake Forest City Attorney's office plans to resume prosecuting the dispensaries under the city's zoning code, according to a statement released this afternoon. An Orange County man living in Florida was arrested with 31 men in an online child predator sting operated by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
An Irvine native is among a group of men facing child predator charges in a large online sex sting operated by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office of Florida. Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight at a Monday afternoon press conference announced the results of the first-ever online child predator sting carried out by the sheriff’s office, which lasted six days. Two Fullerton police officers were ordered today to stand trial for the beating death of schizophrenic transient Kelly Thomas. Officer Manuel Anthony Ramos, 38, is charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter, while Cpl Jay Cicinelli, 40, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and excessive force in the beating last July 5 at the Fullerton Transportation Center. The 37-year-old homeless man died five days later when his family took him off life support. The 38-year-old Ramos, a 10-year Fullerton police veteran, is free on $1 million bail, one of the highest ever posted in Orange County. Cicinelli, 42, is free on $25,000 bail. They are both on unpaid administrative leave. Ramos faces a potential sentence of 15 years to …

A SigAlert was issued at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for the far left lane on the 5 South at El Toro Road after a hit-and-run collision involving multiple vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP reports show that at least three cars were involved in the injury crash, which blocked the fast lane. Police recommend that drivers use alternate routes for about 30 minutes until the crash debris is cleared.

The truck ran a red light and crashed into a pick-up and a car on Lake Forest Drive.
A truck carrying asphalt headed west on Lake Forest Drive overturned at Cañada Road shortly before 10 a.m. Monday after reportedly running the red light and smashing into two other vehicles, authorities said. The driver told police that his brakes failed as he headed toward Cañada. A passenger in the truck was injured in the crash and was extricated by firefighters who used the Jaws of Life. He was taken to an area hospital, according to police. The truck's driver escaped unscathed, as did the occupants of the two other vehicles. Both vehicles—a white pick-up and a silver car—were towed.
