Update: Reward Offered for Missing Dog

Cuto, a friendly but shy Chinese shar-pei mix, was last seen early Tuesday morning in Lake Forest.

A monetary reward of unspecific amount is now being offered for the return of Cuto, the tan Chinese shar-pei mix rescue who took off during a late-night walk at Freedom Village, the Lake Forest retirement community where he is being fostered.

The dog went missing at about 12:30 a.m. on El Toro Road near Muirlands Boulevard; A resident reported seeing a dog matching Cuto's description at about 10 a.m. Tuesday miles away, in the area of Lake Forest Drive and Trabuco Road.

Volunteers have been searching since Tuesday for the dog, who is about 45 pounds, 2½ years old and friendly, though shy.

At Freedom Village, Cuto was beginning a week of training to become a therapy dog when he spooked and ran away with his collar and leash still attached.

It's possible that he is headed for a home in Rancho Santa Margarita where he used to stay, according to this post by his owner on DogHeirs.com.
