UFC Middleweight Contender Mark Munoz of Lake Forest Holds MMA and Wrestling Training Fundraiser

Top UFC Middleweight fighter (and Lake Forest resident) Mark Munoz held a pair of seminars this past weekend in Treasure Island (San Francisco) for aspiring Martial Arts fighters, with proceeds going toward the relief efforts of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in the Philippines.

Munoz, along with volunteers for Team Munoz arrived at Treasure Island Event Venue to hold a two-part seminar for the training athletes. In the morning session Munoz held a seminar with lessons in mixed martial arts and wrestling, while the afternoon session featured lessons in wrestling for levels K-through-college. Munoz also held a meet-and-greet in between sessions for attending spectators.

More than two months have passed since Haiyan devastated the Philippines. To date, the death toll has reached more than 6,000 while nearly 1,800 people remain unaccounted for.

“My heart goes out to the people in the Philippines,” Munoz said. “As a proud Filipino, I want to do all that I can to help out. We don’t see what is going on in the news anymore, but that doesn’t mean the suffering has gone away. This fundraiser is my way to help give back to a country where it all started for my family, and it is an opportunity for others to step in and contribute as well.”

In addition to the ongoing search and rescue for survivors, homes of more than 16 million people have been flattened or damaged by the typhoon. The rebuilding process is said to take about three years.
