Hailstorm Hits Lake Forest

After the sun set Thursday, a powerful but short-lived storm struck Lake Forest.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, a storm hit Lake Forest, bringing thunder, lightning, pouring rain and pounding hail.

Hail the size of pennies covered the ground in many parts of town, making it look for a short time as if it had snowed. 

Powerful peals of thunder repeatedly set off car alarms, startled area residents and frightened pets.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday should bring less inclement weather. The day is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 65 degrees.

Winds, however, will be stronger than usual. The day is predicted to be a breezy one, with a northeast wind between 20 and 25 mph, and gusts as high as 35 mph. 

On Friday night, temperatures will sink into the upper 40s.
