Rain, Chilly Weather Arrive in Lake Forest

Lake Forest sees rain and colder temperatures. Weekend expected to be chilly, with the possibility of rain returning Sunday.

Until Friday, Lake Forest remained sunny and warm, even as coastal Orange County cities found themselves engulfed in heavy fog and blustery winds. 

A storm from the Gulf of Alaska arrived in Southern California Thursday night, bringing showers to town as the cold, wet system traveled south, the National Weather Service reported.

The rain brings with it a chance of thunderstorms early Friday afternoon, the Weather Service noted.

Two-tenths of an inch of rain are expected at sea level, with up to the three-quarters of an inch in the mountains, where snow may fall as low as 4,500 feet Friday morning. Above 5,000 feet, one to two inches of snow is expected.

Meanwhile, temperatures in Lake Forest on Friday will remain below 60 degrees, with a high of 57 degrees. will drop by about 10 degrees Thursday with a high of 68 degrees in San Juan Capistrano.

Saturday will be just as chilly: 59 degrees will be the high, 49 degrees the low.

The Weather Services predicts rain returning Sunday in the early afternoon. The chance of precipitation in town is 70 percent, though the day should still be partly sunny.

By Sunday night, the chance of shower will have dipped to 20 percent before 11 p.m., with temperatures dropping to around 45 degrees.
