Lake Forest July 4th Parade, 2014

Lake Forest’s signature July 4th Parade is gearing up for this Friday. This year’s theme is the 3 L’s – “Life, Liberty, Lake Forest”.

GET THERE EARLY

Find out what's happening in Lake Forestwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

The parade starts at 10 am but if you want a good seat you’ll have to get there early. Almost all the good seats along Toledo and Lake Forest Drive are gone by 9 am.

HAVE A PANCAKE BREAKFAST

The good people from Kiwanis sponsor a great pancake breakfast for only $6. They’re located in the school yard along Toledo. Follow the smell of fresh bacon and you’ll find it.

BTW – the funds raised from this project go to help the boys and girls in Lake Forest, so please participate.

OLD FAVORITES

This year we have nearly 100 participants including such fan favorites as The One man Rifle Team, Comic Quest, Amigos de la Colina, Uncle Sam and Snoopy’s Bi-Plane (my personal favorite), and lots of scout groups.

JOIN THE PATCH

For the first time, THE PATCH will participate in the Parade. Editor Penny Arévalo is among the list of participants and she’s invited all our Lake Forest bloggers and readers to join her. Look for the red convertible parked in space #78. If you want to walk with her in the Parade, wear something patriotic and be sure to bring some water and a hat. It can be hot out there. People should gather around the car by 9:30 am.

SPONSORS

The Parade would not be possible without the hard work of John Irish and the 50 people who volunteer on the Parade Committee, and the great support from Ron Rivera and the City staff. CR&R, Brizio’s Pizza, and Doctor’s Ambulance also help make this a wonderful day.

I hope to see you there. Come by and say hello. I’ll be working as an “Assembly Captain” for floats #19 through #29 and then I’ll join The Patch float for their walk.

5K RUN/WALK

If you're really ambitious, plan to join our 5K Run Walk that starts at 7:30 am. The race course and parade flow through the tree lined streets of this scenic community. There were close to 1,500 participants in last year's race and July 2014 marks the 20-year anniversary of this event.

The Lake Forest Firecracker 5K Run/Walk is sponsored by the City of Lake Forest and the El Toro High School PSTO. All proceeds from this fundraiser go toward purchasing educational supplies, equipment and programs that benefit the students of EI Toro High School.

Go to http://www.lakeforest5k.org/ for more info. Or drop by between 6 am and 7:15 am in front of Ace Hardware on Lake Forest Drive.
