UnMasking the Mayor - Final Comments

We’ve spent 3 sessions going through Mayor Robinson’s written campaign promises and comparing them to what he’s actually done in the 17 months since being elected.

SUMMARY

Robinson made a total of 19 distinct promises over 10 areas, and his record has been abysmal – making promises for issues he had no control over, failing to even address many of his promises, failing to support others who promoted the issues he promised, and occasionally doing the exact opposite of what he promised to do. In a very few cases he did try to do something, but he has actually achieved very little even in these few isolated cases.

CAN ROBINSON BE EXCUSED?

Can Robinson be excused because he’s only been in office for 17 months? I think not. He’s managed to do some highly undesirable things in those 17 months, so why shouldn’t we expect him to have done some highly desirable things as well. His list of negative achievements (backroom deals, conflicts of interest, ignoring the public, voting against Sunshine ordinance, etc.) far outweighs the few positive achievements (e.g., loosening business sign ordinances, making city more business friendly).

Can Robinson be excused because he is only one of five Council members? I think not. Councilman Nick was appointed at the same time and one can compare Nick’s record against Robinson’s.

  • Sunshine Ordinance – Nick “yes”, Robinson “no”

  • 8 Year Term Limit – Nick “yes”, Robinson “no”

  • Rebidding the trash contract – Nick “yes”, Robinson “no”

  • Traffic Commission – Nick “yes”, Robinson “no”

  • Community Foundation – Nick “yes”, Robinson “no”

  • Criticizing Council perks – Nick “yes”, Robinson “no”

  • Encouraging public input – Nick “yes”, Robinson “no”

  • Eliminating paper agendas after buying tablets – Nick “yes”, Robinson “no”

  • Allow new items on the agenda with only 2 votes – Nick “yes, Robinson “no”

  • Reduced notary fee for Lake Forest residents – Nick “yes”, Robinson “no”

  • Taking Money from Vested Interests – Nick “no”, Robinson “Yes, Thank you.”

  • Nick may not have been successful in pushing for these highly desirable actions, but at least he made the attempt. Robinson has not only not made the attempt, he has often been vociferous in opposing the very things he promised.

    BOTTOM LINE

Is Dwight Robinson's secret identity “Mayor Twoface”, a sleazy politician saying anything he thinks the public want to hear, but doing just about nothing to advance the wellbeing of the City, and in fact, often doing the opposite of what he promised? I can’t answer that question for you. We’ve examined his 19 distinct written promises across 10 broad areas, and what, in nearly a year and a half, he’s done with regard to these promises, and we’ve taken the extra step of looking at what he might have done if he was truly sincere about fulfilling the promises he made. It’s up to you to decide.
