No. It’s not the latest Bruce Willis action flick. It’s Lake Forest California and it’s just a list of what’s happened in May 2013.

If you‘ve been reading The Patch lately you must think you’re living in downtown Detroit or Baltimore. Crime in our City seems to have exploded. Here’s a partial list of crime headlines for the month of May only -

May 29 – “Football Coach Pleads Guilty to Possessing Heroin

May 25 - “Tombleson Guilty of Manslaughter in Stabbing Deaths”

May 21 – “Lake Forest Detective Cleared in AT&T Robbery Shooting

May 15 – “Man Convicted of Molesting Two Girls

May 12 – “Shots Fired as Task Force Closes in on Attempted Murder

May 10 - “Deputies Hunt Kids Out Past Curfew

May 8 - “Police Seek Local Fugitive Charged with Sexually Assaulting Young Girls”

May 7- “Arrest Made in El Toro Sidewalk Stabbing

May 7 - “Sketch Released of Botched Kidnap Suspect

May 7 – “Lake Forest Man Dies After Crash, Drunk Driving

May 7 - “Councilman Herzog Sentenced for DUI

What’s up? This is for the month of May only. And it's merely the headlines. If you looked at the Police Blotter the record would be even worse.

Almost all of these crimes happened in Lake Forest, and most of the criminals and the victims lived in Lake Forest. In one case, the criminal in question is a City Councilman (Herzog) and despite calls for his resignation, he remains on the council and not a single member of the council has openly criticized him or joined in the call for his resignation.

In 2011-2 Lake Forest had 2 homicides, 9 forcible rapes, 143 aggravated assaults, and 755 ordinary assaults. Add to that 42 robberies, 91 weapons violations, 107 auto thefts, 234 home burglaries, 668 narcotics violations, and 1561 larcenies plus more than 1,000 other crimes. Judging by the May data, 2013 will be even worse.

Tomorrow I'll go into more details.
