This weekend (5/18/14) Joel and Denise Sperber of Laguna Woods will be honored at the Crohn's and Colitis Talk Steps Walk along with Phil and Alex Hering of San Clemente. The couples first met at Saddleback Memorial Hospital while Phil was recovering from surgery related to Ulcerative Colitis. Joel, a volunteer with the hospital was able to provide Phil and his wife guidance as his family had also experienced the effects of the diseases. Today, as volunteers for Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), both couples have empowered themselves to share their story and reach out to others, bringing to life CCFA’s mission: to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases.
Both Couples have started a monthly local support group for people suffering from these diseases. They have also created a series of videos to help share their mission.
