A truck carrying asphalt headed west on Lake Forest Drive overturned at Cañada Road shortly before 10 a.m. Monday after reportedly running the red light and smashing into two other vehicles, authorities said.
The driver told police that his brakes failed as he headed toward Cañada.
A passenger in the truck was injured in the crash and was extricated by firefighters who used the Jaws of Life. He was taken to an area hospital, according to police.
The truck's driver escaped unscathed, as did the occupants of the two other vehicles.
Both vehicles—a white pick-up and a silver car—were towed.
A portion of westbound Lake Forest Drive at Cañada closed temporarily for clean up.
The truck, which police said was hauling asphalt from construction in the Regency Lane and Osterman Road area, landed on its side in the Spring Lakes apartment complex.
According to police, the truck will be impounded and inspected for mechanical issues.
