Car Rear-Ends CHP Cruiser, Causes SigAlert

The officer's vehicle was parked on the north 5 Freeway near Lake Forest Drive when it was hit. Several people are taken to hospitals.

A CHP vehicle was hit from behind Saturday afternoon during a stop along the north 5 Freeway near Lake Forest Drive, according to California Highway Patrol logs.

Details were sketchy, but it appears the officer was rear-ended while stopping to assist a white Buick Riviera around 2:30 p.m.

After the crash, a SigAlert was issued. At least three people were taken to nearby hospitals, one to Saddleback and the rest to Mission, with unspecified injuries, according to the CHP.

By 5 p.m., all lanes were reopened. A CHP spokeswoman said no other information was immediately available.
