Dead Woman Found in Car Trunk in Irvine

Police are investigating the cause of death of a woman found shortly before midnight Tuesday in the trunk of her car on an Irvine street near a community park.

The woman—whose name was not immediately released—had been reported missing approximately five hours before by her husband. Her husband, who was out searching for her, called Irvine police when he found her car on Beech Tree Lane at University Drive.

The body of the woman, who was about 30 or 31 years old, was found in the trunk as police searched the vehicle for clues, Irvine police Lt. Julia Engen said.

The lieutenant said that the woman's death is considered suspicious, though it was not immediately clear how she died. Coroner's investigators took the body at about noon, Engen said.
