Enrollment Opens for City's Emergency Academy
Class participants get expert advice on how to act in an emergency or natural disaster.
Enrollment is underway for the city's annual Emergency Preparedness Academy.
The academy, offered as a partnership between the city of Lake Forest, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the Orange County Fire Authority and Doctor’s Ambulance, is designed to teach Lake Forest residents the basics of disaster preparedness.
During the free course, participants will get certified in First Aid/CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator use.

Registration is open now for the class, which will begin in February 2012 with about 30 participants at the .
Instructors from the sheriff's department, fire authority and ambulance company will provide training in first aid/CPR, AED operation, disaster psychology, earthquake preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations and light search and rescue.
In total, the program provides approximately 24 hours of preparedness training in eight consecutive weeks. At the final session, participants use their new skills in a simulated disaster scenario.
