Hearing Delayed in Vehicular Manslaughter Case

Next court appearance is pushed to mid-December for Jose Javier Fernandez Ramirez, the San Clemente resident accused of killing 23-year-old Nicole Davenport in a January car crash in Lake Forest.

A preliminary hearing for Jose Javier Fernandez Ramirez, who allegedly in Lake Forest in January, has been postponed.

In court Monday, Ramirez' lawyer requested that the hearing—at which a judge will determine if there is enough evidence to put the San Clemente man on trial—be pushed back to Dec. 15.

Ramirez, 20, is charged with vehicular manslaughter in the Lake Forest death of Nicole Davenport, 23, of Anaheim.

Ramirez was arrested in May after a four-month investigation into the Jan. 14 crash at the intersection of Bake and North Pointe Drive. Investigators said Ramirez was at fault for smashing into .

He escaped without injury, but could face six years behind bars if convicted of  running a "solid red light," the District Attorney's Office said.

Ramirez has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Also at that hearing, prosecutors brought an additional charge against Ramirez for allegedly traveling at an unsafe speed before the crash.

Monday's short hearing was a calmer event, with fewer members of the two families attending.
