Pharmacy Takes $1,200 Hit In Early Morning Burglary

Early Tuesday morning an alarm at the CVS store on El Toro Road in Lake Forest alerted authorities to a break-in.

A burglary early Tuesday morning cost the  on El Toro Road about $1,200 worth of cigarettes, authorities said.

An alarm at the store on the 23300 block of El Toro went off at 1:33 a.m. Tuesday, according to a police report. Sheriff's deputies reportedly arrived at 1:41 a.m. to find the front door ajar and its locking mechanism damaged as part of an apparent break-in.

Deputies requested backup and a police dog but upon entering the  found that the burglar or burglars had fled after grabbing approximately 20 cartons of cigarettes from the front counter area.

There was no indication of any attempt to enter the pharmacy area, police said.

Police suspect the burglar or burglars used a heavy-duty pry tool to enter the store, according to the report.

CVS has 24-hour video surveillance of its entrance; the tape is expected to have recorded the break-in, police said.
