Spill Closes Lake Forest Drive Off-Ramp

Fire and police personnel responded to the report of a hazardous-materials spill at the exit off of 5 south.

A hazardous-materials spill shut down the Lake Forest Drive exit at 5 south for hours Thursday evening as fire and police personnel cleaned up the mess.

According to California Highway Patrol reports, a standard blue drum fell off a vehicle and its contents began leaking onto the roadway.

On Friday, fire investigators said that the liquid in the leaking drum was "wintergreen soap."

Both fire and police personnel responded to reports of the Thursday evening spill at Lake Forest Drive and closed the exit for approximately two hours.

During the closure, freeway traffic backed up at the next southbound exit, El Toro Road.
