Campbell: Congressional Vote 'Complete Surrender' By Republicans

Rep. John Campbell said last week's vote by Congress to re-open government and avoid a default amounted to a "complete surrender" by the Republican Party.

"The mainstream media...would have you believe that this was a 'bipartisan agreement,'" the Republican wrote in an article on his House website. "It was...in the same way that Lee and Grant reached an agreement at the Appomattox Courthouse in 1865.

"It was a complete surrender on the part of Republicans. All that was 'negotiated' were the terms of that surrender."

Campbell said the Democrats refused to negotiate, putting Republicans in Congress in a very difficult position.

"They were willing to risk the future of this nation in pursuit of their socialist dreams," he wrote. "Their strategy left only two possible outcomes: Republican surrender or we find out what happens if a modern government runs out of money. They got the former."

The vote in the Senate last Wednesday evening was 81 to 18 and in the House of Representatives it was 285 to 144.

Among Orange County's Congressmen in the communities that Patch serves, Democrat Alan Lowenthal voted to re-open government and avoid a devault, as did Republican Darrell Issa. Republicans Dana Rohrabacher and John Campbell voted against.

Campbell's 45th district includes Lake Forest, Rancho Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo, was well as other areas of Orange County.
