Community Workshop to Flesh Out Future Civic Center

The city is encouraging Lake Forest residents to share their ideas about the town's future civic center.

As Lake Forest approaches its 20th anniversary, the city is seeking a more permanent home for its administrative functions.

The lease on the building that functions as  is up in 2014; by then, the city is hoping for a smooth transition to a new home.

Lake Forest residents are invited to share their suggestions for the city's future civic center at a community workshop, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at .

According to the city's five-year plan, the civic center could "potentially centralize civic uses such as meeting/conference facilities, administrative offices, emergency operations, special events and the arts."

Next week, city staffers are looking for input on how to make the civic center a "valued asset and amenity of which all Lake Forest residents and businesses can be proud."

Slated for a nine-acre plot, the center is estimated to cost $36 million.

If you can't make the Tuesday workshop, this online survey is another way to get in your two cents.

The survey, which asks residents to share input on possible amenities at the new civic center, is available until 5 p.m. Sept. 30.
