Aliso Elementary Might Be Headed to Auction

The lease would go up for bids in October under a proposal before the school board Tuesday night.

A new tenant for the could be named as early as next month under plan being considered by the local school board.

. District officials said then that the plan was to lease the campus as soon as possible, preferably to a private K-8 school.

On Tuesday, the district’s board of trustees will consider a plan to  auction off the lease of the 8.15-acre school site.

The auction, which would be open to the public, is tentatively scheduled for 9 a.m. on Oct. 6.

Sealed bids would be opened at the meeting, and the district would lease the site to the highest bidder.

The school district, facing declining student enrollment, .

District officials said in spring they had been contacted by parties interested in leasing the site, although no front-runner has been publicly named.

The school board will also consider approving a similar auction to lease a 1.58-acre surplus warehouse on Via Fabricante in Mission Viejo on Tuesday. That auction would take place at noon on the same day.

In other actions, the school board is set to review policies ranging from discipline and student use of technology to athletic competition and high school graduation requirements.

The school board meets at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Education Center boardroom at 25631 Peter A. Hartman Way in Mission Viejo.
