Diary of a Charger: Nothing Like an All-Nighter to Shake Off Dust of Defeat

El Toro High School lacrosse player Bella Knoth shares her journal entry for the week ending March 15.

Hey again!

Our game Thursday against Los Alamitos was pretty rough; we lost 13-3. I have no idea what happened, but our team just couldn’t get it together. We all know Los Al is a tough team, but nobody expected such a harsh loss for no apparent reason. Our coach cancelled practice on Friday to give all of us some time to relax, shake off the loss and prepare for future games. Our JV team has a small roster, and on Friday many players were unable to make their game against Trabuco Hills. I was asked to play with them, and I am proud to say we defeated the Mustangs, 3-2.

On Saturday, my best friend Simone had her Sweet Sixteen in L.A.; we took a party bus to the Hard Rock Café and walked around. By the time we returned home, it was nearly 1 a.m. However, the annual varsity sleepover was also that night, so my dad drove me to the designated house just in time for me to catch the end of a movie and hang out with all of my teammates. My friend McKinna and I pulled an all-nighter and the next morning, a few of the girls came with us to Cook’s Corner in Trabuco Canyon for breakfast.

The Chargers will have to prepare for two games this week. The first, on Tuesday, is an away game at San Clemente at 5:30 p.m. The second, on Thursday, is a home game versus Tesoro at 4 p.m. I really hope we can do better than the game on Thursday. I want the team that played in Santa Barbara in the pouring rain and loved it; I want the team that fought till the end to win the first game of the season. Wish us luck!

Until next week,
