Head's Up, Thru Aug. 25: Patch Lives, Council Considers Developers

Worthwhile notes for Lake Forest-area residents.

Taking a look at what's going down and coming up for residents in the Lake Forest area.

• Maybe you heard about Patch in the news, about the layoffs last Friday and the potential closing of various Patch sites around the country. Don't worry, Lake Forest Patch is intact, and will continue to operate under the umbrella of AOL as it has since Dec. 21, 2010, providing news, content and a forum for the the community. Patches in Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente are similarly unaffected by the corporate restructuring.

• There's a hefty agenda in place for the Tuesday meeting of the City Council. Among the items: Conduct the second reading of an ordinance that will rezone the Foothill Auto Centre from commercial to residential, and allow developers to build the Brookfield project there despite the Planning Commission's recommendation against it. It will also hear a presentation by Trumark, another developer, which is trying to get the OK to build in the same area.

• A couple of areas you may want to avoid the next few days are Rockfield Boulevard, which is undergoing construction, and Serrano near El Toro High, which is being used by construction workers to off-load equipment to build the stadium.

• Today is a Skateboard Photography Camp at Etnies Skatepark beginning at 10 a.m. The five-day camp, for those 8 and above, is $195. Click here for more details.

• There is a Music and Arts Festival and Crafts Faire at noon, Sunday, at El Toro High. Entry is free. Click here for more details.
