Head's Up Thru Oct. 13: Worthwhile Events This Week

A collection of interesting, fun or worthwhile things for Lake Forest-area residents.

A look at what's going down and coming up for Lake Forest and residents of the surrounding area. 

• The planning commission of Lake Forest meets on Thursday, 7 p.m., at City Hall. Among the items on the agenda are window graphics for Guitar Center, construction of a Verizon wireless antenna in the form of a faux chimney at Lake Forest II, and discussion of potential modification of the city's sign code.

• Nonleague games are finished, which means it's time for local football teams to begin play in the South Coast League on Friday. El Toro (3-3) tries to go above .500 for the first time this season when it plays at San Clemente (2-4); Trey Tinsley has throw six TD passes in each of the last two games for El Toro. Trabuco Hills, which won four games to open the season for the first time since 1992, has lost two in a row to Trinity League opponents. The Mustangs (4-2) open the season with a critical game at Tesoro (4-1) that may determine who gets an automatic playoff berth and who will be hoping for an at-large berth.

• There is a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Saturday for Ace Montessori School, 24602 Raymond Way. The event, as part of the Lake Forest Chamber of Commerce, is free and begins at noon.

• Registration now open through Nov. 7 for Lake Forest Little League's spring season. In-person document verification is Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Forest Lanes.The other in-person document verification is Nov. 7. Click here for details. If you want the LFLL Facebook page, click here.

• A free Cyber Safety Class for parents will be presented today, 6-8:30 p.m., in Rancho Santa Margarita by that city's Child Safety Officer, Sheriff's Deputy Clay Cranford. It will discuss online activities and what parents can do in the face of online bullying and other nefarious activity. The class isn't appropriate for anyone under the age of 18. • Anyone caring for someone with Alzheimer's Disease or dementia can probably find some comfort in dinner and support from others facing the same battle. Dinner event is Thursday, 6 p.m., at Park Terrace in Rancho Santa Margarita, but RSVP by Tuesday by calling 949-888-2250. The evening is facilitated by Park Terrace wellness director Heather Battey, who has a master's degree in mental health counseling. Free event could be a great way to rejuvenate.

• A local screening of the documentary "The Anonymous People, is Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., at the Kaleidoscope Stadium 10 theater in Mission Viejo. The movie is about the 23 million Americans living in long-term recovery from addiction. Click here for more details.
